About Terry

Terry Teeples grew up on a dairy farm in Draper, Utah. When he was in the 4th grade his dad traded 5 calves for a purebred Quarter Horse mare from the King Ranch in Texas. She outran every horse in Draper and her filly later outran everyone too. Following an LDS mission to Florida, Terry joined the Ute Ranger Mounted Posse, where he competed in their riding club events and became interested in racing horses. He bought his first race horse, Dun Swan in 1967 who won a futurity. The next year he bought Mint C Too as a yearling who won the Golden Spike Futurity. Terry was hooked.

Terry got his employer, Richard S. Bowers, interested in horses. Terry purchased several broodmares for Richard. What an impressive start! Handy Dancer’s first foal, Heavenly, became champion aged mare of the Nation, winning $1,046,000. Another mare, Fiesta Date, produced Fiesta In The Sky, a Black Gold Futurity winner in Oklahoma running 2nd to Black Gold Championship Winner Spring Lark who won $139,000. Little Chic Sis produced Party Pic, a Black Gold Futurity Division winner, and another mare Otta Fly produced futurity winners Fly Smashed and Otta Be Smashed ($28,000 and $69,000 respectively).

Terry served as secretary to the Utah Valley Chariot Racing Association. Teaming with Milt Warr, they won the Division Chariot Championship. This exciting sport gave Terry more butterflies in his stomach than playing basketball for Utah State University.

When Richard Bowers died, Terry began his company, Teeples Horse Transporting, This opportunity allowed him to know all the successful horse trainers at the big tracks. For over 25 years this company has been transporting horses across the states but is now owned by Terry’s former driver, Wes Pettingill.

In 1989 Terry built a horse boarding ranch in South Jordan, Utah. He stood the stallion Proudest Effort one year, who for many years has been his best producing race horse sire in the Intermountain West. Terry and his uncle, Dean Graham of Rexburg, Idaho own 65% of Proudest Effort.

In 2006 Terry moved from South Jordan to Willard, Utah, with all his barns and pipe fencing to his beautiful 15-acre horse boarding ranch. He stands two other notable quarter horse race stallions there, First Gridiron (sired by First Down Dash, the leading sire in the nation), and Dusty’s Best Effort (sired by the above mentioned, Proudest Effort). Terry served as vice-president of the Utah Quarter Horse Association from 2004 to 2006 and is presently a director in the Association. Terry’s pride and joy is his third part ownership of the Proudest Effort mare, Proud Lil’ Lady. Probably the greatest consistent race mare in the state of Utah, reaching over a 100 speed index on six different race tracks at five distances with six different jockeys. Winnings totaling $58,000. She currently has four babies coming by embryo transfer sired by Feature Mr. Jess, (sire of All American Futurity winner Heartswideopen with winnings of $1,282,690 as a two year old in 2007).

Terry lives on the ranch premises and invites everyone to come see the ranch located at 450 North 200 West in Willard, Utah, just north of Ogden. He and his staff are now ready to provide full care horse boarding. Trainers and lessons are also available, with plenty of areas for riding. Terry wants everyone to feel like this is their ranch and he hopes you’ll want your horse to call this beautiful facility their home too.
